Flee as a bird to your mountain (2008)
for theremin and vibraphone
Program Note
I wrote this for theremin player Carolina Eyck and percussionist Magdalena Meitzner
and my aim was to grant Carolina's wish for a piece that would fit the vocal character of the theremin.
I further wanted to make use of the fact that this instrument, being electronic, can go very high and very low.
So the vibraphone carries the harmonic structure throughout the piece while the theremin acts both
as the soprano and the bass. The first bars are lyrical, while the middle section was based on the
counterpoint ideas I developed while writing my Requiem.

Premiere performance
Carolina Eyck and Magdalena Meitzner recorded the piece in the summer of 2008 in Germany
for Carolina Eyck's cd and it was later premiered in Sweden at the Royal College of Music
on November 6, 2008.
